Pair of Dutch gold Bible clasps
Hendrik Giltay
Dordrecht, 1782
71 grams, 13.8 cm long
The clasps, chased with three veiled women’s heads and three men’s heads in ovals, are mounted on Het Nieuwe Testament met Psalmen, printed by Johan Enschede & Zonen, Haarlem, 1785. They are typical examples of Neo Classicism in the Netherlands and were therefore shown at the exhibition Dordrechts Goud en Zilver in 1975.
